Chester Education Foundation Programs
Reconnecting Youth
Reconnecting Youth is a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) endorsed, research-based drop-out
prevention program.  The program targets students in grades 7-12 (12
to 18 years of age) who are at grave risk of dropping out as evidenced
by truancy, failed courses and behavioral referrals. The goal of the
program is to ensure that all of the participants receive services that
support (1) an increase in levels of academic achievement and (2) a
reduction in dropout rates. The data from last year's program can be
found on the
Reconnecting Youth Results page.

Students will work with trained coaches at a ratio of 10:1 through daily
after-school sessions for the duration of the program. Reconnecting
Youth Coaches  act as mentors throughout the school year, working
closely with teachers and administering an hour-long intensive life skills
program five-days a week. The tutoring curriculum is closely
coordinated with the CUSD curriculum and curriculum specialists have
developed high-interest, reading/writing/math curriculum, activities
and materials which all CEF teachers and volunteers are trained to
teach. Every Friday, the Reconnecting Youth students participate in a
social activity such as bowling, movies, dinner, town meetings, and
community service.
